Voluntary Exchange Program
ContiPremiumContact 5 215/60 R 16 99 H XL
Please check the tire brand (Continental), product line, size and DOT serial number of your tires. The affected tire size is 215/60 R 16 99H XL. The affected article description and DOT serial numbers are as follows:
Article description | DOT serial numbers |
ContiPremiumContact 5 215/60 R 16 99 H XL | 6G5M D85Y 3317 6G5M D85Y 3417 6G5M D85Y 3517 6G5M D85Y 3617 |
The last four digits of the DOT serial numbers indicate the production period (week/year). Tires produced between 3317 (33th week of 2017) and 3617 (36th week of 2017) are covered by this voluntary exchange program. No other tire sizes, production periods or product lines are affected.
Affected tires will be replaced (with new Continental tires) by the tire dealer where you have purchased the tires. In case of questions, please visit our page www.continental-tires.com/exchange for more information or contact the local organizations named on the website for details.
If you feel uncertain that your tires could be potential affected as well, contact your local tire dealer so they can check your tires. Affected tires will also be exchanged if purchased in other countries. The same conditions apply as for the exchange in the four countries.
Our voluntary exchange program started on August 22th 2018. We have informed the national authorities and are in touch with our dealers to implement the program. The program will run for an indefinite period so that tires can also be exchanged at a later date (see also item “Costs”). Nevertheless, we strongly recommend that you check all of your tires before you use your vehicle again. The tires concerned must be exchanged as soon as possible.
Continental will credit the full purchase price of the replacement tire (including costs for mounting, balancing etc. if applicable) for all exchanges made until 28.02.2019. After 28.02.2019, the compensation will base on the currently valid version of the Continental warranty regulation.
Due to the use of a not specified compound material, the tires could potentially have a tread separation. This could result in tread material loss with possible negative effect on vehicle handling. To date, Continental has not received any reports of accidents or injuries in connection with this condition. The exchange program is being initiated proactively to avoid any potential risk to vehicle drivers and other road-users. The affected tires were delivered to customers in various countries, including Germany, Austria, Finland, Netherlands, Romania, Australia, New Zealand and solely within the replacement business.
The incorrect material was removed out of the production process immediately upon its discovery. All ContiPremiumContact 5 tires of this and other sizes manufactured outside production week 3317 to week 3617 contain the correct material.
The Continental brand stands for high quality tires. Continental tires are developed and produced according to the highest quality standards. The safety of our customers is always our top priority. The findings mentioned above are restricted to the specific article, size and production period.
No, we are not aware of any accidents or personal injuries.
