Hannover, August 22, 2018.
Continental announced a voluntary tire exchange program covering 1.650 ContiPermiumContact 5 tires in 215/60 R16 99H XL. Due to the use of a not specified compound material, the tires could potentially have a tread separation. This could result in tread material loss with possible negative effect on vehicle handling. To date, Continental has not received any reports of accidents or injuries in connection with this condition. The exchange program is being initiated proactively to avoid any potential risk to vehicle drivers and other road-users. The affected tires were sold to customers in various countries, including Germany, Austria, Finland, Netherlands, Romania, Australia and New Zealand, and solely within the replacement business.
The affected Continental tire can be identified as follows:
Article description | DOT serial numbers |
ContiPremiumContact 5 215/60 R 16 99H XL | DOT 6G5M D85Y 3317 DOT 6G5M D85Y 3417 DOT 6G5M D85Y 3517 DOT 6G5M D85Y 3617 |
The last four digits of the DOT serial numbers indicate the production period (week/year). Affected tires will be replaced free of charge. No other tire sizes, production periods or product lines are affected.
Continental began notifying the respective national authorities on August 22, 2018 and is in contact with its tire dealers to organize and implement this voluntary exchange program. Anyone seeking more information, including instructions for identifying affected tires and local contact partner, are invited to visit Continental’s respective website www.continental-tires.com/exchange.
